I’m not much for red meat; once a year or so, I will eat a burger, but for the most part, I’m not big on cow meat. My biggest reason for never overcoming this is that raising beef is pretty resource-intensive, and I figure if I can eat more of the grains and lower-energy-cost animals instead of cows, that doesn’t hurt! That being said, Husband isn’t the same way: he grew up with a big treat being steaks cooked on the grill. It seems really easy, perhaps, to those who have eaten a lot of steak and prepared it for themselves, but I didn’t really know how to cook one, so we basically never have it at our house.
HelloFresh gave us a chance to try some steak without me having to figure out how to cook it, and just this once I don’t mind too much. I know steak is considered a really great kind of meat, and when I’ve eaten it, it always tastes quite good. This week, roasted sweet potatoes and almond-covered green beans sat on the side of pan-seared steak and woah, so GOOD.
The pan sauce definitely was a great addition as well, but I enjoyed how all the flavors melded well together; a bit of sweet potato and a crunchy green bean and a shred of steak all in one mouthful were just delightful. I don’t know if I will make more steak now than I did in the past, but I know that I am less afraid of figuring out how to cook a steak. As a once in a while treat, alongside some tasty plant-based sides, it is downright delicious.
